My Story

Supporting parents in challenging times is my passion. Though I began exploring meditation in the early '90's while in graduate school for Clinical Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, it didn't become a focal point in my life until life brought me to my knees in 2015. That was when my daughter, who had been living with Crohn's Disease for four years, became direly ill while in college. I flew across the country to be with her for what I thought would be a few days and stayed for a couple of months while she was in and out of the hospital. My husband was home in California with our high school age son, and we didn't know anyone in Connecticut, where our daughter was hospitalized. I found myself completely shut down by fear and overwhelm, unsure if we would ever get home. Some months after that round of hospitalizations ended, I attended a weekend workshop for caregivers at the Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco. The first thing they taught me was that self-care mattered, that if I'd taken kinder care of myself during that difficult time, it would have positively impacted my daughter as well.

I wanted to know more. What else could I do differently, so I would know for the next time? I studied many teachings from mindfulness and meditation experts, beginning with Eckhart Tolle and Adyashanti, and deepening with Thich Nhat Hanh, Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, as well as many others. Meditation became a refuge and a source of resilience. The more I learned, the more I wanted to share it with other parents facing challenges of their own. Having raised one child with an autoimmune disease and another with an anxiety disorder that began in early childhood, I had a clear sense of many of the struggles parents face. I joined the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with the intent to become a teacher for parents raising kids with medical and/or mental health issues.

When I was in the midst of the struggles with my kids, I had found that I had surprisingly little bandwidth to take in new information. So I try my best to package the teachings into small bites, hence the nourishing nuggets name. I think you'll find my guided meditations to be calming and compassionate and to provide easy tools to use on your own. I can honestly say these practices have changed my life for the better, and I am deeply grateful for them. If you are a parent facing chaos, crises, or even the day-to-day challenges of raising kids in this era, I invite you to join us. No prior experience necessary!
